THE SOUTHERN SPIRIT OC6 CANOE DESIGNED BY IAIN MURRAY (18FT SKIFF WORLD CHAMPION, AMERICA'S CUP DEFENCE SKIPPER) OFFERS A FASTER HULL SPEED ADVANTAGE OVER TRADITIONAL CANOES.

UPDATED MODEL LAUNCHED AT GOLD COAST CUP 2014 - OPEN MENS IRON DIVISION WINNERS- NORTHERN BEACHES.

The Southern Spirit, has a speed advantage over traditional canoes of around 500 metres in a typical 11 kilometre race, says Murray. Its swiftness comes from a wider and flatter main hull, offering less resistance to wind and waves, and a catamaran style Ama. Constructed from high-tech vacuum infusion foam sandwich -  creating extra stiffness giving a perfect resin-to-cloth laminate ratio to achieve maximum stiffness for the minimum weight requirement. (130kg)

Southern Spirit is an AOCRA (Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association) approved craft.

Our latest click-in quick rig designed system has a backup systems to prevent self de-rigging, and also an 80mm overhang on the right-hand side for ease of righting the canoe in the event of a huli.

We offer as standard in this new design rigging, a dual system which enables the canoe to be rigged traditionally with timber iakos and ropes/ratchet straps or with the click-in quick rig aluminum iakos. By offering a dual system it offers a choice of rigging depending on the days paddling conditions. We recommend in medium to big seas and/or strong wind conditions by being able to be rigged in the traditional way will allow the rigging to be forgiving/flexible rather than rigid with no 'give'.

We recommend the click-in quick rig aluminum rigid system to be used in flat to medium conditions and moderate winds. The quick rig system is also excellent for getting your canoes back on the water quickly for your next training session after a regatta.

We also have the ability to manufacture and offer lightweight canoes at 90kg with the same rigidity and strength by altering the laminates at the same cost as a 130kg canoe. These lightweight canoes will not be able to be raced in an AOCRA sanctioned event.
